Our Style Icon

We've been thinking about muses lately here at Elaine Curtis and who we would like to most dress also.

We talked about whose style we admired and the same name came up for us all- the ever stylish, never over done, often copied but never equalled Audrey Hepburn. To us her style sums up what we are all about at Elaine Curtis- chic, timeless clothes that you can put your own stamp on, with the odd exception that keeps people guessing obviously!

Here are our instore & online picks of what  we feel epitomises Audrey's inimitable style...
The iconic image is still inspirational to many women.
Nobody wore a black dress quite like Audrey; managing to make it look demure yet at the same time sophisticated and with just a hint of coquette.
Our Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti dress ticks all the boxes a black dress should; just figure hugging enough that it could be worn to any event. The sleeves and ruching at the midriff mean it is forgiving also.

Jeans have been worn the world over by everyone at some stage in their lives.
Make sure your pair fit you right (no over spill ladies) and are smart enough to wear  with heels or flats, depending on the occasion. MIH  are the jeans label of choice at Elaine Curtis. Their populairt really does know no bounds.

With a style to suit every shape, view our jeans edit HERE

Every girl should own a white cotton shirt.
This one from Irish duo Lennon & Courtney's debut collection is classic with a twist of double cuffs
and extra wide seams to the front  which cleverly prevents gaping.

A staple piece for every girls jewellery collection.
Our Rada pearls have details of fringing, contrast coloured  beads and studding to keep them bang on trend.

No one likes to be predictable and a red dress is always a little unexpected and slightly risque.
This beautiful lace dress from Just In Case is demure enough to wear to a wedding but the slightly lower
than normal v to the back adds a little je ne sais quoi.

We hope this has given you some ideas of how sometimes, simple really is best.
And when you're next having a wardrobe dilemma, ask yourself one question, what would Audrey wear?
You won't go far wrong that way!

Neons V's Pastels

For me, the neon versus pastel debate is all about what your wardrobe needs right.
Need some new classics? Invest in pastels.
Need some new pieces to give your old favourites a new twist? Invest in neon!
Simple!

Firstly here's how some inspiration on how to do neon without looking like a fashion victim...

Victoria Beckham in neon orange dress.
Keep the shape and your accessories simple for this trend.

Some celebs show us how to wear pastels.
The secret? Keep the shapes sharp to avoid looking like an old bag lady!

By Malene Birger included a lot of neon in their collection this season. Our customers love this label for their more affordable takes on catwalk trends, so we bought with this in mind. Similarly Sonia Rykiel opted to go down the pastel route when designing her SS13 collection. Almost all labels have included the pastel/neon trend in one form or another in their current collections.

We've had a very busy couple of weeks with loots of beautiful new Spring arrivals. The predominant colour so far in all collections has been orange. It's a fantastic colour on Irish skin tones, with something to suit everyone and lift away the pasty Winter complexions.

Christmas at Elaine Curtis!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" Yes-Christmas is almost upon us and to say we are busy here at Elaine Curtis is an understatement. With 20-70% off all our stock, there has been a frenzy of people doing their Sale shopping now, instead of in January. It makes sense if you think about it-we all have a little extra cash before Christmas as opposed to after!

Here are our top Sale picks...

Susanne: This gorgeous silk Heron blue tunic dress is a really practical and versatile piece. It can be worn like our model wears it with heels and court shoes but team it with boots and chunky long line cardigan and it makes for a great day dress. Even with bare legs and wedges in the Summer it would look great. It is one of those rare dresses that really could be worn to almost any
event with a change of accessories and footwear.

Catriona: Irish people love knitwear and I am no exception. This quirky knitted dress from zany French label Manoush is a real beauty. I love the sleeve on it. The shape is very flattering and like most dresses from Manoush it is timeless. Pare it with patent heels or a fine boot depending on the  occasion. This is one Sale buy you are sure to be wearing for years.

Elaine: I am a huge shoe fanatic and if you are lucky enough to find your size left I would definitely recommend any of these beautiful pairs as my Sale pick. The turquoise mock croc court shoe are for the real shoe lover who isn't necessarily looking for something practical but just want a really high quality pair of leather shoes. The DVF ponyskin flats are both stylish and practical and are perfect for wearing with jeans or slim fir trousers. They have been very popular this season so if you are lucky enough to be a size 36 or 37 then hurry and buy them now before they're gone! The DVF suede and mesh court shoes are a classic-with-a-twist shoe that look good worn with almost everything and are also surprisingly comfortable also.

Lynda: I love colour and this dress is a beautiful shade of coral. The fabric is a fluid viscose which has a beautiful drape to it and it is a relaxed and very flattering shape. To me this dress would look equally as good in the Summer with bare legs. That to me makes this an even better Sale buy!

A New Coat!

With our Winter well and truly in the air, we receive daily phone calls asking about the coats we have in stock this season. Here's a closer look at some of our favourites. With Christmas fast approaching and our deposit rail starting to fill up, now is the time to drop a hint or two at home. Or if you're like us here in Elaine Curtis, treat yourself to a new coat for Christmas. You'll be sure to be wearing it well into the future.

Elaine's Favourite...
.
With Elaine's love of colour it's no surprise that she chose this as her favourite...
"The cut, fabric and of course the gorgeous green houndstooth make this a standout piece for your wardrobe. For the woman who loves coats, this would make a great gift. Wear it with simple form fitting clothes underneath to show case it perfectly. There is a touch of the modern day Jacqueline Kennedy about this coat that I love!"

Catriona's Favourite...
"I love sharp tailoring and one of my favourite trends this season is leather. This coat is ideal for those who want a versatile coat with an edge. The leather sleeves and revers add just enough of the trend. The classic crombie shape ensures that you will be wearing this coat for years to come. "Wool and Leather coat from Diane Von Furstenberg

 Lynda's Favourite...

"This is the coat I went for myself this season- on first appearances it may look quite impractical but as the cape and fur collar are both detachable, the coat is actually a very versatile piece also. I will wear it without the collar and cape with my jeans then for occasions I can add all the trimmings! I plan to even wear the cape over a little black dress that I have.

Susanne's Favourite...

"I simply love this coat. The tailoring is exquisite and the detailing both inside and out is almost haute-couture. This is a fantastic dress coat. Wear it over a cocktail dress but equally team it with a less structured look and it adds definition and a modern sharp look. I love to mix fabrics so I would wear it with lace and add a fur neckpiece for a touch of glamour"
